An 8th grade Social Studies teacher and a middle school Media Specialist combine their efforts to make history more meaningful to students. The result is “History Our Way.” This research project helped students build valuable 21st Century Skills while engaging them in a research topic of their choice. Big6 research skills were taught in order to prepare students for this project. After two weeks of intense research and project development, students were able to showcase their work in the Media Center. Members of the school community came to learn about the significance of a variety of American history related events, people and inventions. Following the success of this information literacy social studies project, many teachers were excited about integrating 21st Century Skills into their own classrooms.
